AI Maintenance Assistant Transforms Telecom Workforce in Spain

The Starting Point

One of Spain’s leading telecommunication providers was facing a mounting challenge: maintaining its complex infrastructure across thousands of locations. From servers and radio towers to fiber hubs and switching stations, the demand for skilled technicians was constant. But with so much travel involved and working conditions that required both precision and resilience, the company struggled to keep a stable workforce.

Older employees brought loyalty and deep experience, but new hires often left within months, unable to handle the environment. Training was another bottleneck: education cycles stretched over months before a technician could operate independently. The result was a constant cycle of high turnover, long onboarding times, and critical maintenance delays.

The Challenge

Every service interruption carried high stakes: unhappy customers, regulatory pressure, and potential revenue loss. The company needed a way to shorten education cycles, reduce dependency on long-term veterans, and make newcomers effective much faster.

It wasn’t just about efficiency—it was about ensuring reliable connectivity for millions of people and businesses across Spain.

The Turning Point

This is where Syntheticaire stepped in. Together with the telecom’s engineering team, we developed an AI-powered Maintenance Assistant trained on the company’s vast library of technical documentation, equipment manuals, and operational protocols.

Instead of expecting newcomers to memorize every detail, the AI assistant became their always-available guide. Technicians could query it on-site for step-by-step instructions—whether they were fixing a server, troubleshooting a radio tower, or diagnosing fiber optic issues.

In time, the assistant will even support automatic ordering of spare parts or replacement equipment, further reducing delays and human bottlenecks.

Building Trust: Privacy & Reliability

Given the sensitivity of telecom operations, data security was non-negotiable. We ensured that the AI system could be deployed in three flexible ways:

  • Private cloud fully controlled by the client
  • On-premise servers inside their infrastructure
  • Or, if preferred, connected to trusted providers like OpenAI or Google APIs with enterprise-grade data protection

On top of this, we implemented a quality control system with full MLOps monitoring. Each new release of an AI model is tested against the company’s workflows before being introduced—no blind updates, only carefully validated improvements.

The Outcome

The impact was immediate:

  • Training time cut by more than half — newcomers only needed to master the basics while the AI handled advanced queries.
  • Reduced turnover — instead of feeling overwhelmed, technicians had a reliable support system in their pocket.
  • Higher operational uptime — fewer delays in maintenance meant stronger network reliability for millions of customers.

Beyond the numbers, the AI assistant helped change the culture: learning no longer felt like a barrier, but a continuous process supported by technology.

Looking Ahead

The telecom now envisions an even more autonomous workforce. Future iterations will allow the assistant to automatically trigger equipment orders, schedule predictive maintenance, and provide voice-guided AR support in the field. The vision is not to replace people, but to empower them to succeed in a demanding industry.
